WDMA Releases New Product Category Rules for Interior Architectural Wood Door Leaves

[Chicago] The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA), in cooperation with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as the program operator, has completed the development of ISO-compliant Product Category Rules (PCR) for interior architectural wood flush and stile and rail door leaves. Manufacturers can begin using and referencing these PCR immediately.

"Creation of a PCR is the first step in the process that allows door manufacturers to develop ISO-compliant Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)," said Robert Stuart, vice president of engineering for TruStile Doors in Denver, CO and chairman of the WDMA National Architectural Door Council (NADC). "These EPDs document a door leaf's environmental attributes for use by architects and specifiers toward obtaining LEEDv4 credits." LCAs and EPDs must be verified by a program operator as well to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the PCR.

WDMA selected ASTM as the program operator to facilitate creation of the architectural wood door PCR to ensure compliance with ISO requirements. The PCR was developed through a technical advisory committee consisting of WDMA members and other interested individuals and included public review and an independent panel review prior to publication.

The PCR is a public document available without charge from either WDMA or ASTM.

The new PCR will also be the focus of a general session at the WDMA National Architectural Door Conference in Baltimore, MD on April 29. More information on the conference can be found here.
