Greetings!
Our first event of the season is nearly upon us. The Classic Boat Fair and Maritime Art Show is just a week away, beginning Friday, July 13th through Sunday the 15th. There will be close to 30 classic boats on display and maritime artwork from over 70 artists.
The first Sunday in August, the 5th, finds us on the shores of Louse Point, Accabonac Harbor with a grand array of members' boats, good company for a picnic and an opportunity for you to try out many of the boats.
We will have our finished raffle boat, a Swampscott dory and its new galvanized Load Rite trailer on display for raffle ticket sales at the Springs Fishermans Fair on Saturday, August 11th.
I hope to have an opportunity to meet you at each of these events.
Your Skipper,
Ray

Classic Boat Fair & Maritime Art Show Friday, July 13 to Sunday, July 15th
|
The Classic Boat Fair this year has a unique feature that has never been attempted in the past. Before The East End Classic Boat Society (EECBS) was formed as a corporation in '99, there existed at the end of Gann Road at the commercial dock in Three Mile Harbor an East Hampton Town sponsored boat building facility in the old Tabor Lobster Shack. There in 1983, one of our current boatwrights, Burt Van Dusen, worked with John Collins building a Connecticut River Drag Boat, later christened The Polinska. The next boatwright who headed up this facility was Redjeb Jordania who along with member Don Thalyer built a 3/4 whale boat.
In subsequent years boats were built out-of-doors behind the East Hampton Town Marine Museum and in the backyard of my home on Old Fireplace Road in Springs. Three boats were built in these settings. Since the Community Boat Shop was constructed in 2008 we have built another 5 boats and restored one. In all a total of 10 boats built and/or restored by the EECBS will be on display during the Classic Boat Fair.
Complimenting these boats will be a circle of 10 kayaks most of which have been built by boat shop members at the boat shop. Topping it off will be another dozen classic boats representing an array of designs for nearly 30 boats in all at the Classic Boat Fair!
The Maritime Art Show inside the Community Boat Shop will feature paintings, photography and sculpture from over 60 East End artists and on Saturday, July 13th plein air artists will be painting the Atlantic double dunes from the deck of the Community Boat Shop. The paintings for sale will include oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, mixed media and pen & ink. The art show is being organized by The East End Classic Boat Society and the Artists Alliance of East Hampton.

Annual Louise Point Boat MeetSunday, August 5th
10 AM to 5 PM
|
This is our once a year gathering on the edge of Accabonac Harbor at Louse Point in The Springs which gives our members an opportunity to mess about in boats for a day. You are encouraged to bring your boat, if you have one, a beach blanket, an umbrella, lunch and some fruit or dessert to share. During the day you will have an opportunity to row or sail the many different boats that will be beached or anchored off. We have arranged to have the parking restrictions lifted so if you have guests or are not a resident of the Town of East Hampton, everyone can park and not worry about being ticketed.

Springs Fishermans Fair
Saturday, August 11th
10 AM to 4 PM
|
| This annual event brings literally thousands of people to Springs at Ashawagh Hall and adjacent parkland to search for arts and crafts items, eat good local food and buy raffle tickets so they can hopefully win this year's raffle boat a Swampscott dory, along with its new galvanized Load Rite trailer. This will be our first showing of our completed boat. We encourage you to come to help out and buy your book of tickets to support our Community Boat Shop. We are extremely fortunate this year to have a fully completed boat to place on display for this opening event. |
