On Saturday, May 7th, nine young adults from Grace Church joined with the St. Andrew's Framingham 20s/30s fellowship to lend a hand for Habitat for Humanity. We assisted in constructing a duplex home for two families in Wayland, MA. read more
Grace Church parishioner, Oscar Greene, has been writing for many years.  At age 97, he is still writing.  His work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and anthologies. He is the author of several books.

                For thirteen years, Frank and I convened the Monday evening Bible study at Grace Episcopal Church.  When we were asked to assume this responsibility, we hesitated feeling, like Moses, we were not qualified to lead. read more

The next opportunity to help at St. Luke's Community Dining in Chelsea is May 28.  Please contact Lisa Carson with any questions or to volunteer to help. 
  
Food is needed for the food pantries that Grace Episcopal Church supports. The items for May 15 are coffee or tea.  The items for May 22 are peanut butter, sunflower seed butter or jelly.

Our last Wednesdays at Grace of the school year will be on May 25--join us for a wonderful POT-LUCK dinner, with games and activities for the whole family, as we celebrate the close of a wonderful program year. Dinner is at 6pm. Please note that there will not be regular classes for kids or adults that night.
Barbara C. Harris Summer Camp

Grace Church is a stop on the chartered bus route to camp all summer, and we need volunteers to supervise the camper drop-offs (on Sunday afternoons) and pick-ups (Friday afternoons) from the last weekend in June through the last weekend in July. Grace Church's ministry to engage the community in park cleanups is back for its 6th year!
May 14th, 10AM - Fellsmere Pond, Malden - with Malden Community Action Group - This park is also known to Medford residents as "Five Bumps" a popular sledding location on the edge of Fulton Heights.

Clean Up Leaders and partners are needed to coordinate other clean ups this year. We're also looking for a volunteer or two to help with media and outreach by taking photos and sending short write-ups  to the local papers before and after events. Anyone interested in learning more and getting more involved with this ministry should speak with Alicia Hunt,

Thanks to those who attended the reading of The Laramie Project on May 6th.  It was a moving performance in support of Grace's Colombian mission work.

YLA Mission Trip Fundraising Dinner
Come and join us for a night of dinner, raffles and a silent auction on Saturday, May 14th at 5 p.m. for Elizabeth and Catherine Woodbury's YLA mission trip to Arizona and Mexico where they will learn about border issues and the people these issues effect.  The cost is $10 a person or $25 a family. Please contact Cheryl Woodbury to attend

Pentecost - multilingual reading!
Pentecost, May 15, is the birthday of the church and the festival in which we celebrate the disciples speaking in all of the languages of the world. We will be reading one of the lessons that day in many different languages. 

Free Screening of "In Defense of Food with Michael Pollan" on 
May 19 at 7:00PM
In Defense of Food tackles a question more and more people around the world have been asking: What should I eat to be healthy? Based on award-winning journalist Michael Pollan's best-selling book, the program explores how the modern diet has been making us sick and what we can do to change it.  The screening will be held at Grace Church and is part of the Medford Farmer's Market Spring Film Series.  Doors open at 6:30 and film begins at 7:00 PM. Please join us! 

Book Club

The Rev. Dr. Cameron Elliot Partridge will be our guest preacher at the 10 AM service, next Sunday, May 22nd.
 
City Reach presentation on May 22 
My name is Jaeda Hamel and next Sunday, May 22nd, I will be talking about my experience at City Reach. City Reach helps the homeless in the Boston area. I had an amazing time. It helped me understand the drawbacks of being homeless. If you would like to know more about my experience, I will be in the Common Room after Church. It will be for about 10 minutes and there will be another person who went with me. Thank-you!

Healthy Returns @ Grace

I would like to thank all of the Grace Church team for walking with me, and for all of those who walked but with another team. I would also like to thank everyone who donated. You helped reach our goal of $1,000. 

Parental Caregivers Support Group
Do you take care of your parents? Are you making decisions for them? Isn't this hard? If you would like to commiserate, share your situation and experiences, and learn from others similar experiences, join us once a month for a Parental Caregivers Support Group. We will use the bookThe 36 hour day: a Family Guide to Caring for People who have Alzheimer Disease, Related Dementias and Memory Loss by N. Mace and P Rabins as a third party reference. This is part of the new Healthy Returns @ Grace. We will meet on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm (-8:30 for private discussions) in the Common Room at Grace Church. Cooking Class with Esther Brownsmith
To Everything a Season: Cooking Spring's Bounty
Learn how to use New England's spring produce to create healthful, delicious meals in this interactive cooking class.  Parishioner Esther Brownsmith will demonstrate cooking techniques using the ingredients in season at the farmer's market: pea shoots, radishes, June strawberries, and more.  After we prepare a meal from scratch, including a simple whole grain bread, we will have a chance to eat together and discuss the impact of food on our physical, spiritual, and emotional health.  Participants will go home with a packet of recipes and seeds to grow their own windowsill harvest.  (Advance registration is required; please mention any food restrictions at time of registration. Must be 18+ to attend this event.)

YLA (Youth Leadership Academy) Fundraiser
Paint Afternoon for Elizabeth and Catherine Woodbury's YLA mission trip to Arizona and Mexico to talk and learn about border issues and the people this issue effects.  Come and paint with Cheryl Woodbury and have some fun with others from the church.  The fundraiser will take place on June 11 at 4 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served.  The cost is $40 and all supplies and refreshments are included. 

Join Episcopal City Mission for a Night of Witness, Worship and Celebration - 5:30 pm, June 14, 2016 @ The Cathedral - Join us in honoring the work of social justice leaders this year and welcoming our new Executive Director, The Rev. Arrington Chambliss. The Rev. Mariama White-Hammond organizer, activist, minister at Bethel AME, and formerly Executive Director of Project HIP-HOP, will be our preacher. Youth Leadership Academy Project
A YLA "YO Tea" will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 3 p.m.  This is an afternoon tea for teens and 65+ adults to get together to share, learn and converse.  Catherine and Elizabeth Woodbury are running this tea for their YLA project for the church.  There is no cost to attend.  Please see any of the Woodbury's for more details.  There will be a sign-up sheet in Wiles Hall.
