Serving the Spiritual Needs of the Elderly

A panel discussion

Grace's LDI team (SHAREgrace) has been developing an outreach ministry to the Medford Rehab and Nursing Center throughout this year. We organized this Adult Education educational panel on May 13th to learn more about the spiritual needs of the elderly, especially those with dementia or mental illness. The class will be led by a panel of Grace Church parishioners and experts who have served as spiritual supports and caregivers to the elderly and those with dementia and Alzheimer's

Wednesdays at Grace

End of the Year Potluck Celebration!

Wednesday, May 20th at 6:00PM

No classes. Just a potluck and a celebration. Bring a dish to pass of something you love to make or eat!

Outreach Corner

The next opportunity to help at St. Luke's Community Dining is May 30.  It is not just cooking. There are several other duties that go along with community dining, such as, serving food to people seated, clean up, washing dishes, cutting up vegetables, filling the plates with food before serving and so much more.Lisa Carson is the coordinator of Grace Church's work with the St. Luke's Community Dining ministry.  Please contact her with any questions.

Food is needed for the food pantries that Grace Episcopal Church supports. Food items may be placed in the baskets just outside the main entrance to the sanctuary (an usher can help you locate them).  The items for May 3 are coffee or tea.  The item for May 10 is cereal.

Kid's Corner

Our last day of Sunday School will be May 10th. For the remaining Sundays through the Spring and Summer we will be offering children's sermons at the 10 AM services.

Children's and Youth Leadership Sunday will be May 17th. Come and witness our wonderful children in action as they usher and read the lessons. And join our middle school kids for the Rite 13 ceremony, marking the beginning of their journey to adulthood in our faith community.

Our final Wednesdays at Grace program for this school year will be on May 20th, with a potluck dinner and year-end celebration. Come for games and fun!

And finally, our amazing Wednesdays at Grace and Sunday School teachers will be honored during the 10 AM service on Sunday, May 31. Let's lift up these creative, generous, hard-working saints among us.

Water Chestnut Pull
Our river is covered with an invasive plant - water chestnuts.  The City of Medford, the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation are involved in a multi-year project to remove this plant from our river.  One portion of the work each year is hand pulling the weeds.  The work is messy, wet and fun!

Saturday July 18th, 9am-noon
join members of Grace Church to hand-harvest water chestnuts with MyRWA.  Advance registration will be required to reserve space in a canoe. For more information contact Alicia Hunt.

Calling all artists!

The Grace LDI Team, now known as SHARE Grace (Spreading Hope Awareness and Renewal with the Elderly and People with Mental Illness) has come together around a shared purpose of combating the stigma against mental illness and aging in our communities to create a beautiful and sacred space for worship at the Medford Rehab and Nursing Center.

Our next event is a portrait drawing workshop to be held after the 10 AM service on May 3rd. We are looking for volunteer artists, children and adults, to draw from photos of homebound parishioners of Grace Church. We'll be using art to celebrate and restore the dignity and humanity of the aging and elderly in our community. The portraits will be displayed in Wiles Hall on Sunday, May 17th and presented to the subjects and their families at the end of May. Please see Mia, Louis Piper-Carson, Kate Woodward, Judith Karpowich or Kris Plausky for more information.

It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul."-3ho.org
