Outreach Corner
About Empty Bowls
Helping to feed people in need, Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to organizations working to end hunger and food insecurity.
The 2nd Annual Chelsea Empty Bowls event is Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 5:00-7:30 PM at The Williams School, 180 Walnut St., Chelsea. This year artists from the community and St. Luke's have created magnificent bowls from which you can eat your soup. Please see Brenda Pearson for tickets and more information.
The Outreach Committee will be taking donations for OneFund Boston in response to the recent events. We'll have a basket at the back of the church on Sunday to collect donations.
Food is needed for the food pantries that Grace Episcopal Church supports. Food items may be placed in the baskets just outside the main entrance to the sanctuary (an usher can help you locate them). The item for Sunday, April 28 is canned soup. The item for Sunday, May 5 is coffee. |
