Ms Wheelchair Washington Application Being Accepted NOW!!

Ms Wheelchair America recognizes the accomplishments of women who utilize wheelchairs for mobility. Organized in 1972 by Dr. Philip K. Wood as a forum for the promotion of

the achievements, as well as the needs, of people with mobility impairments, The non-profit program consists of State Coordinators and State Titleholders to include 30+ states. The state programs are staffed by volunteers dedicated to increasing public awareness so that all citizens will be afforded the opportunities to lead productive and meaningful lives.
Qualifications for Contestants:
- Must be a woman
- Must use a wheelchair for 100% of daily activities
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be between 21 and 60 years old.
- Must be a resident of Washington for 6 months prior to the state pageant.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from appearances
- Must be available to fulfill the requirements of a state titleholder. These include travel within your state, travel to the national pageant, and numerous public appearances during the title holding year.
- Must possess good communication skills.

A BIG THANK YOU
to the many that supported the Seattle Jam Wheelchair Basketball tournament earlier this month. This annual event allows our basketball players to take the skills learned at practice to the court. Teams from Canada, Tacoma, Spokane, Portland and Salem were in the house. Both adults and juniors played games to qualify for the NWBA National Championships in 2013.
THANK YOU to Seattle Parks and Recreation: Specialized Programs, BodyPoint, Bellevue Healthcare and Varilite for their financial support for this tournament. Our athletes value your partnership to bring them this sport experience.
THANK YOU to the many volunteers who set up the courts, kept score for the 20+ games, served lunch to over 100 people, made repairs to wheelchairs, and many other task, to the coaches of the 11 teams, the amazing Northwest NWBA officials who value our athletes and the parents, families and friends who came to cheer on the home teams. A fun way to see a game for FREE and help support local youth. NEW Power Soccer: YES, Power Soccer comes to the Seattle area!!! Coach Nate is ready to Rock 'n Roll. We welcome the Tacoma Rolling Thunder Power Soccer team to the first practice, Saturday January 12th from 3-5 PM. Practice will be weekly at Nova High School from 3-5pm. Open to power chair users of all ages. March 23rd -24th, Yakima weekend of basketball at Franklin Middle School. Youth teams will meet up with other youth in the Northwest for a 'sleepover' and all night basketball. The CREW will join the weekend for a sleepover with friends.

The CREW Youth Social
The CREW Youth Socials are open to youth and young adults to come hang out in our mentoring program. Supervision is provided by Camp Casey counselors. Organizers: Samantha Hecker, Marcus Lew and Josh Laitila. Sponsored by Seattle Adaptive Sports, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Spina Bifida Association of Washington and the Kiwanis Camp Casey Foundation. The CREW Youth Social will take place the second Saturday of each month from 3-5pm, following the Seattle Adaptive Sports Experience clinics. What a great time to have your parents go off shopping or into Seattle for some fun, while you have some of your own with friends....games, food and laughter.

About Seattle Adaptive Sports
Seattle Adaptive Sports is a not-for-profit organization, tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. SAS promotes, encourages, and simulates the education, socialization, physical development, and normalization of persons with physical disabilities; and to promote public awareness and understanding of the need for recreational sports and amateur competitive athletic opportunities for physically challenged individuals. SAS offers competitive basketball, track/field, sitting volleyball, sled hockey and monthly sports clinics to physically challenged individuals in the Puget Sound region.
