Worship & Music Corner: Celebrating Worship

John Marsh

How can I make a difference?

Along with Christian formation and outreach, worship is one of our cornerstones at Christ the King. During our transition time, surveys in which we all participated offered feedback to our leaders. You asked for worship that was dynamic, empowering and gave clear choices for all God's people. We now offer both traditional and contemporary styles of music and worship on Sunday mornings. Each serves up the best possible offerings of music, preaching, word, and sacrament. We are in many ways unique in our own Lutheran denomination by offering excellence in all styles of worship. Most churches specialize in one or the other style. By offering both, we better enable our church family to grow and prosper in the faith.

Worship is an ever-changing and -growing experience. Connected with and central to everything we do, worship unites us in celebration, engages us in thoughtful dialogue and helps us grow in faith. It grounds us in our Christian and Lutheran roots, while demonstrating practical relevance for today's world. We all need to be in worship on Sundays to be effective ambassadors for Christ in the world.

This kind of dynamic worship requires helpers to make it run well. Have you thought about how you might do more than be in the pew? There are lots of ways to help empower worship. If you can help with sound board, visual media, contemporary setup, altar guild, ushers, lay readers or communion assistants, please let me know. I will see that you are trained so that you know what you will be doing and feel comfortable doing it. Do you have questions? Let's talk!

Our contemporary music team finally has an official name: Life Song! It's a great name for us and helps honor our mission statement at Christ the King. Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals is this Saturday, October 5th, at 10 a.m. under the bell tower. St. Francis of Assisi is remembered for many things...among them is his love for all God's creatures. Near his feast day, we offer a short service blessing for all our pets that are part of our families. Give your pet its due! Bring your furry, feathered or scaly friends to receive a blessing (but please keep them on leashes or in carriers). We will even bless a favorite stuffed animal for the little ones!

special_needsSpecial Needs Ministry

Do you love kids? Do you have experience working with kids of all different abilities? Do you have any experience in the education of kids? If you answered yes to any of those questions, please keep reading! We are looking for a fantastic group of individuals to serve on a task force committee dedicated to developing a Special Needs Ministry for children here at CtK. This committee will work to lay the foundation for a new branch of our children's ministry that can serve all individuals in our congregation and beyond. We will meet for a short (yep, we promise to keep it brief) meeting in the upstairs main office conference room at 12 p.m. this Sunday, October 6th. Any questions? Please feel free to contact Meredith King (678-628-5043 or mere_22@yahoo.com).

safeguardSafeguarding God's Children - Child Abuse Prevention Training

Safeguarding God's Children provides participants with the information they need to protect the children they know and care for in their personal lives and the ministries in which they attend and serve. The program is based on the philosophy that if every adult can protect just one child, the will forever change one life. If we can all change one life, together we will make a difference in this generation of children.

At Christ the King, we want each person to actively protect our children and youth so that we may live into our baptismal covenant and to help them grow stronger in their life in Christ.

Sign up on the blue Connection Card at weekend worship or e-mail Sandy Theurer so can have materials prepared for you.

Training dates are this October 6th from 12-1:15 p.m. in room 156 or October 10th from 7-8:15 p.m. in room 156.
