Sunday's Message
Cultivating Patience in an Instant World
The Rev. Dr. Stephanie Lutz Allen, preaching |
Friends,
| | ©Travis Silva on creationswap | We come together on Sunday mornings to celebrate God's goodness and God's faithfulness. This week we again welcome the Rev. Dr. Stephanie Lutz Allen to our pulpit. As you prepare to gather, come with an expectation that God will meet you in our midst, whether in word, song, or silence or interaction with another.
I look forward to seeing you at one of our worship services, whether 7:50 a.m., 10 a.m., or 5 p.m.
See you soon!

Theme for the Day |
These words about patience have helped many to let
go of anxiety and to be calm in the moment:
"Patience does not mean passivity. Waiting patiently is not like waiting for the bus to come, the rain to stop, or the sun to rise. It is an active waiting in which we live the present moment to the full in order to find there the signs of the One we are waiting for. The word patience comes from the Latin verb 'patior,' which means 'to suffer.' Waiting patiently is suffering through the present moment, tasting it to its full and letting the seeds that are sown in the ground on which we stand grow into strong plants. Waiting patiently always means paying attention to what is happening right before our eyes and seeing there the first rays of God's glorious coming."--Henri Nouwen, from Bread for the Journey |

Scripture Passages
Colossians 3:12-14
As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Proverbs 15:7-18
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the minds of fools. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves the one who pursues righteousness. There is severe discipline for one who forsakes the way, but one who hates a rebuke will die. Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord, how much more human hearts! Scoffers do not like to be rebuked; they will not go to the wise. A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken. The mind of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly. All the days of the poor are hard, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast. Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it. Better is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it. Those who are hot-tempered stir up strife, but those who are slow to anger calm contention. |
