You are receiving this email because your ZIP code indicates that you reside in Baltimore County and you will be directly impacted by Bill Number 42-16, Recreation and Parks - Enforcement Authority of Recreation and Parks Personnel.
The Bill was introduced at the request of County Executive Kevin Kamenetz by the County Council at its June 6, 2016 meeting and it will be discussed at the June 28, 2016 Work Session at 2 p.m. Final Reading and Vote will occur at at the Legislative Session on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
This is a poorly crafted wide spectrum bill which among many other things, will ban firearms and knives in Baltimore County Parks.
No exemption is provided for persons who have valid permits to carry a handgun issued by the Maryland State Police.
No exemption is provided for person who use knives to cut food during family picnics.
Bans parking at any location adjacent to a park.
Bans on walking on ice (no mention is made to restrict the ban to ice on ponds, streams or lakes which would at least make some sense).
Bans entering or exiting a park except at an officially designated entrance and exit.
In short, this bill throws logic and common sense to the wind and demonstrates a "Nanny State" mentality.
There is little time, please email the Council immediately and voice your opposition to Bill No. 42-16. This email has been sent to the 900 members living in Baltimore County which means we really need your immediate participation to halt this misguided legislation.
As always, be polite and respectful in your communications with the Council members.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,
John H. Josselyn
Legislative Vice President
