Greetings!
The campaign to defeat the Governor's gun ban and preserve our 2nd Amendment rights continues in the House Judiciary Committee. The Senate's amended version of SB 281 was introduced in the House Judiciary Committee last Friday, March 8, 2013. As this is a Senate bill, there was no public hearing or testimony. When the dust settles, we will publish a complete spreadsheet reporting how your legislators voted on the gun bills introduced during the 2013 Session of the Maryland General Assembly. If you could not join us for the rallies, or committee hearings, you can still participate in the campaign to defend freedom by sending emails while you watch the streaming video of the hearings. Governor's Gun Ban is now in the House Judiciary CommitteeWhen originally introduced in the Maryland General Assembly, the Governor's gun ban legislation consisted of 2 identical bills. SB 281 in the Senate and HB 294 in the House of Delegates. The Senate bill (SB 281) was amended in the Judicial Proceedings Committee (JPR) and further amended on the Senate floor prior to its passage in the Senate. This amended version was introduced in the House Judiciary Committee (JUD) last Friday, March 8, 2013. As previously noted, there was no public hearing or testimony (this is normal).
The House Judiciary held it marathon hearing on HB 294 on March 1st & 2nd. You will recall that 1307 citizens testified in opposition while only 32 testified in support.
As of this writing, we still do not know whether the House Judiciary Committee will take up the Senate's amended version of SB 281, or HB 294 which is the House version of the Governor's gun ban. Action on the Governor's gun ban legislation in the House Judiciary Committee is expected as early as tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, 2013.
Amendments are expected to be offered in the House Judiciary Committee. In the event the bill receives a favorable vote in Committee, it will then go the the full House of Delegates for consideration, amendment(s), floor debate, final vote.
If the bill passes in the House, it may or may not be identical to the Senate's amended version. Unless both the Senate and the House can agree on one version or the other, the bill will be assigned to a conference committee. Depending on which Senators and which Delegates are assigned to the committee, a very bad outcome is possible.
Continued calls and emails to the Maryland General Assembly are urgently needed.

Emails to the Maryland General Assembly
Gun ban supporters are now going to the general public in a effort to garner support for the Governor's gun ban. If the Governor's claim that 85% of Maryland citizens support the gun ban, why do they need to gain support? For that matter, when have 85% of Maryland voters agreed on anything? This is an admission that your emails are having an impact in Annapolis. You have already broken the 1 million email barrier and the email thermometer no longer does justice to the magnitude of your efforts. Presuming that every email uses only a single sheet of paper, and based upon 5,000 sheets per case, you would need 235 cases of paper to print them all. Placed end to end, they would stretch for 204 miles! Click here to see how your emails stack up compared to the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Your legislators still need to hear from you and the AGC has provided an effective tool to help Maryland's gun owners. The "Email your Legislators" feature on the AGC Website's Legislative News page is simple to use and very effective. In no more time than it takes to send a single email, you can send up to 188 individual personal emails, one to each and every member of the Maryland General Assembly. Your message does not need to be long or in great detail. Short and to the point is best. Save the long detailed explanations for your "on paper" letters. Don't forget to make phone calls as well! Click here for phone numbers. Let's continue to Blitz the Legislature telling them that we won't stand idle, and we should not be blamed for what someone else did. Remember: - The system will automatically fill in the Salutation for you by adding either "Dear Senator Name" or "Dear Delegate Name" above your message
- Always keep your communications respectful and courteous!
- Short and to the point emails work best.
