Dear Friends,
Fall is coming! In New England that means crisp nights and an incredible selection of apples. The amazing color display of leaves is imminent and it's hard not to marvel at the beauty of the harvest. This morning as the sun came over the small mountain that is my backyard, I picked a colander full of raspberries, infused with the flavor of summer's end. I am thinking a lot about the in-gathering of food, the absorption of the sun's energy and building up for the winter to come. I am thinking a lot about resilience, that euphonious word and essential quality we seek for ourselves & our patients.
I used to sit in wonder when my children were small and experiencing the typical roller coaster of feelings that defines toddlerhood. Sometimes, I would take the big emotional dive with one of them and lo & behold, before I could even catch my breath, they had shot out the other end, happy and on to the next thing, while I was left there standing, deflated at best! I grew to understand that being witness to a toddler's ability to bounce back was one of the greatest teachers of resilience. And as years rolled by, I have come to appreciate what a skill it is to face difficulties, large & small, straight on, with equanimity and humor, confidence & resilience.
This mortal body of mine has given me much to work with in this vein of late & resilience is my touchstone word; I have come to expect, depend upon and love the surge of my own resilience. We are lucky to be alive and to have the chance to be touched by experiences, to open up to love and support and to learn, that in the most unexpected ways, difficult times bring insight, perspective and appreciation.

We're sharing here materials about the often overlooked remedy, Kali carbonicum, hope you derive some deeper understanding of that remedy. You'll also find information on our upcoming class offerings. Hope we get to learn together soon!
Happy autumn! May the ingathering of strength and resilience be yours.
Love & light,
PS. I have been writing for the Huffington Post and you can find links to those piece here:

(30 year old woman with allergies)
by Paul Herscu, ND MPH
Our materia medicas of old describe remedies in extreme ways. In these, patients have gone through a spiral of disease several times until the symptoms become severe enough that they are recognizable to the homeopath. But there is a way to find the remedy before major shocks have altered the patient in so significant a way. Perhaps there is a way to find the Arnica or Hypericum constitutional patient before the injuries and to find the Kali carbonicum patient before severe pathology develops.
Anne, who is 30 years old presented with a chief complaint of allergies. The allergies began 13 years ago, when she moved to the Northeast from the Southwest to attend undergraduate school. When she was 17, her allergies included hay fever symptoms which progressed to bronchitis, pneumonia and finally to spasmodic asthma.
