Welcome...

... to 2016, from everyone at Grand Illusions! Apparently the Dutch celebrate the New Year with the somewhat dangerous pastime of carbide shooting. Worth a look!

And in From the Web, we have two videos that look at important aspects of teaching and education; and yes, that is Teller, the famous - and silent - half of Penn and Teller, with his take on education: did you know he taught Latin for 6 years? And in the RSA Animate series, Educationalist Carol Dweck brings powerful insights from a lifetime of experience into how we might change things for the better in the teaching and learning process.

New in the Toy Shop, we have 4 paper automata from the master of the art, Walter Ruffler; we also have a new puzzle called the Sweta Cross.

And in the Toy Museum, Tim explores ships and boats in one video, and clothes pegs in the other. Something for everyone we thought?

Finally, we received a small consignment of the new T10 trick lock from Rainer Popp. Most have already gone to customers of his previous locks, but we do have a couple left. E-mail me directly if you are interested, at hendrik.ball@grand-illusions.com The lock is about 1kg in weight, and is also complex - there are ten steps needed to solve it. Also quite expensive, due to the complexity - GBP375 incl VAT (although you won't pay the VAT of 20% if you are outside the EU), shipping extra.
