PLC Helps "Build Better Brains" by Assisting Pretend City Children's Museum

Pretend City Children's Museum believes "play changes the world" and its interconnected city is designed to "build better brains" through purposeful play, hands-on learning experiences, role-playing and educational programming. It also takes some serious brainpower to keep this Orange County museum's 17 interactive exhibits and activities running smoothly. 


Tax Day Over? Actually, Tax Day for Most Nonprofits is May 15

 

PLC's Staff Attorney Sarah Efthymiou offers seven tax tips for nonprofits.

 

  1. File annual information returns with the IRS.
  2. Give individual donors receipts. 
  3. Pay taxes on unrelated business income if organized as a 501(c)(3). 
  4. Adopt and follow a process for approving contracts and compensation agreements with insiders (officer, directors and employees). 
  5. Know the restrictions on lobbying activities. 
  6. Refrain from all political campaign activity. 
  7. Consult an attorney when in doubt!

Forming a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in California is not as easy as you may think-attend this class and come away with an understanding of the steps involved and where the resources are to help you make informed decisions.
