It's Never Too Late to Become a U.S. Citizen

Maria Olivia Gonzalez, 92, of Lake Forest once told her daughter: It's never too late to accomplish something.

 

Last year, the great-grandmother did just that. With the assistance of PLC, Gonzalez become a U.S. citizen.

 

"I liked the idea of becoming American. I am happy to be here with my daughters,'' said Gonzalez, speaking with the help of an interpreter.

U.S. Veteran Posthumously Granted Navy Cross

Capt. Matthew Manoukian

Capt. Matthew Manoukian, to whom PLC has dedicated its Operation Veterans Re-Entry program, was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, the highest decoration that can be bestowed by the U.S. Navy.

 

Capt. Manoukian, United States Marine Corps, 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, was killed in combat on Aug. 10, 2012 while in Afghanistan.

 

His family was presented with the Navy Cross earlier this month during an award ceremony at Camp Pendleton, according to the U.S. Marine Corps.

PLC Seeks Ninth Circuit Review for LGBT Persecution Claims 

  

PLC, along with pro bono counsel, has filed appeals with the Ninth Circuit urging the court to reverse the lower court's decisions in two separate cases where relief was denied to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) immigrants who have fled persecution and torture in their home countries.

Federal Bar Association supports PLC 

Members of the Federal Bar Association of Orange County (FBAOC) will participate in the Surf City USA Half Marathon in Huntington Beach this weekend to fundraise for PLC's Federal Pro Se Clinic. 

Current and former members of FBAOC's board of directors will run on Sunday, Feb. 2. 
All proceeds raised will benefit the clinic.
