Western Heritage Parade

Join us as we celebrate our proud Texas heritage and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo at the "Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive" on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 9am to 1pm.

 

The Western Heritage Parade will feature longhorns parading down Houston Street at 11am. The San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo has scheduled musical entertainment, authentic chuckwagon with cowboys cooking over a campfire, and many more activities for all ages in Alamo Plaza from 9am-1pm.  This event is free to the public. Join us for "An Evening in Alamo Plaza" featuring mobile food trucks in Alamo Plaza on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm coinciding with Downtown Tuesday.  On Downtown Tuesday, visitors can park for free after 5 pm at any City owned parking garages, lots and meters.

 

Food trucks scheduled for the event are Cheesy Jane's and Totally Shredded Cruising Cuisine.  Food truck selections range from juicy burgers, gourmet sandwiches, authentic seafood and more.  In addition to great food, enjoy live music by Villela.

 

San Antonio food trucks are located at several locations downtown to include Main Plaza, Soledad St. (in front of the Weston Centre), Villita Way in La Villita, Milam Park, Salinas St. near Art Pace, and Madison Park. They will be serving lunch on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. along with evening serving times.

Out & About Downtown

With the City's ongoing efforts to strengthen economic growth in the city core, the Downtown Operations Department has merged with the Center City Development Office.  The merger realigned Downtown Events, Parking, Leasing and Maintenance functions under the Center City Development Office and will streamline downtown operations and facilitate the economic growth of downtown. Jim Mery will continue to lead the operations efforts in downtown as the  Deputy Director of the Center City Development Office along with Assistant Director Troy Houtman. Assistant Director. Assistant Director Colleen Swain will lead the development division of the Center City Development Office and focus on housing and other real estate initiatives. The Center City Development Office is the go to city department for downtown and our team looks forward to working with you as we strive to enhance the downtown experience. 

 

To kick off the new year, I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to explore downtown San Antonio. Enjoy the unique array of events including 'An Evening In' Alamo Plaza featuring mobile food trucks in Alamo Plaza  on January 28, the Red Dress Fashion Show featuring a red dress collection of couture gowns donated by famous designers on February 11, and Western Heritage Parade featuring longhorns parading down Houston Street on February 1. Plus don't miss the OPEN pop up shops, Joyarte and CANVAS, located at 140 E. Houston, which will be open for business every Tuesday and Saturday through February 1.

 

Currently closed for the next few months for renovations, Travis Park will re-open late March with some exciting improvements including a mini dog park, colorful umbrellas and chairs, and a games kiosk. Other improvements include some additions to the lighting, landscaping, and walkways. CCDO looks forward to celebrating the much-anticipated re-opening on Monday, March 31st by hosting the next Twilight on the Plaza at Travis Park.

Casa Blanca Lofts

Prior to its development, Casa Blanca Lofts was the site of a deteriorating apartment building with a history of crime and vandalism. This Spanish style housing development includes 17 condominiums with a starting price of $269,000. The project is located in City Council District 2 at 1542 N. Alamo and is within walking distance of the Pearl Brewery and the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River.  Casa Blanca Lofts will be complete in spring 2014. Romance on the River

Make your Valentine's Day 2014 special by celebrating it San Antonio style. On Friday, February 14 from 6-10 pm La Villita Historic Arts Village will be homeof an evening of "Romance on the River" at the beautiful Arneson River Theatre. 

 

This enchanted night, now in its second year, is sure to warm you and your special someone on a cool February evening. Beginning with husband and wife duo, Jorge and Nicole, who will perform a beautiful acoustic set sure to get you in the mood.

 

While listening to their music, please enjoy free beer and wine samples by Silver Eagle labels, Stella Cidre, Straw-ber-rita and Michelob Ultra, along with food and sweets available for purchase from two San Antonio food trucks Bite Street Bistro and Saweet Cupcakes.

 

The romance continues with two classic love stories made famous by Patrick Swayze. "Ghost" and "Dirty Dancing" will inspire warm feelings on a chilly February night of love on the San Antonio River Walk.

Go! Historic SA Guided Tour of 2014

Join the Office of Historic Preservation for our first Go! Historic SA Guided Tour of 2014 highlighting downtown's beautiful historic churches!  The tour will take place on Saturday, February 8th at 9:00 am (registration begins at 8:30).  Runners and walkers of all skill levels are welcome, and participants will be divided into small groups based on running or walking preference.  The tour will take approximately 1.5-2 hours. Meet at the Copper Kitchen dining room at the former Ursuline Academy (Southwest School of Art) at 300 Augusta.  Free parking is available, and restrooms and bottled drinks will be provided at the starting point. All participants will receive a "Know This Place" t-shirt.  Registration is $15.  Fill out a registration form at the link below and return it to the Office of Historic Preservation or register in person the day of the tour.   Hope to see you there! To register click HERE 
Red Dress- Fashion Show

Fashion Group International- San Antonio hosts a cocktail fundraiser and fashion show emceed by Leslie Bohl of New 4 WOAI Today to promote heart health awareness during the month of February. The highlight of the event will be a fashion show featuring community celebrities on the catwalk in gorgeous red dresses contributed by Julian Gold and other fine retailers.  The Hearth Truth red dress collection of couture gowns donated by famous designers such as Valentino, Balenciaga and Oscar de La Renta will also be on display for the first time in San Antonio.

 

The event will be held on Tuesday, February 11 from 6:00-8:30pm at 231 E. Houston St (adjacent to the Palm Restaurant). Food and drinks by the Palm Restaurant. Tickets can be purchased after January 24, 2014 online at www.reddress-sa.com.
