Where Are They Now?

 

Lisa Cacho graduated from UC San Diego in 1996 with her Bachelor's degree in Ethnic Studies and Literature, her Masters in Ethnic Studies in 1998, and her Doctorate in Ethnic Studies in 2002. She is currently an Associate Professor of Asian American Studies, English, Latin@ Studies, and Gender & Women's Studies in the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. 

 

During her undergraduate year, she was an active member of the community and is coming back to present her newest work called Social Death: Racialized Rightlessness and the Criminalization of the Unprotected (New York University Press, 2012) this Friday, March 7th at 2pm in SSB107.

Join us for a screening and dialogue around THE GREY AREA: Feminism Behind Bars. This film is an intimate look at women's issues in the criminal justice system and the unique experience of studying feminism behind bars. Through a series of captivating class discussions, headed by students from Grinnell College, a small group of female inmates at a maximum women's security prison share their diverse experiences with motherhood, drug addiction, sexual abuse, murder, and life in prison.
