Where Are They Now?

Rigoberto (aka as Rigo) Marquez graduates from UCSD in 2005 with a double major in Sociology and Critical Gender Studies. He was an active member in the Queer People of Color (QPOC) and a part of the Student Affirmative Action Committee (SAAC) Board. He was very passionate in addressing issues of educational inequality and participated as a board member of the Student Initiated Outreach and Recruitment Commission (SIORC) which later was incorporated into today's Student Promoted Access Center for Education and Service (SPACES) and renamed as the Student Initiated Access Program and Services (SIAPS). UCSD is pleased to announce an inaugural graduate student conference in feminist and queer of color critique, which will take place May 2-3, 2014. The conference seeks to open dialogue about the intersections of women of color feminism and queer of color critique. Graduate students from UCSD and elsewhere are invited to participate in our two day conference, with a keynote and a closing musical performance. We are honored to have Professor Sharon Holland from Duke University as our keynote speaker.

This internship will be a unique opportunity for a staff member to get direct experience in event planning for Chancellor's Office Diversity events such as: Black History Month, Cesar E. Chavez Celebration, CA Native Day Celebration, Asian Pacific Islander Month, and Disability Awareness Month. This position will be working closely with university leaders as they plan these events and will assist with all aspects of the planning for these events to include administrative and financial support, outreach, event logistics, and financial processes.

This half-day conference is part of UCSD's ongoing commitment to staff professional development and cannot be achieved without a highly dedicated group of volunteers.
