From the Vault
This is what community looks like at 10pm. Back in 2008 at the CCC's interim space, we hosted a program called "Teatro Chicana" as part of the Cesar E. Chavez Celebration. A group of mujeres who were a part of "Teatro de las Chicanas" performed skits that addressed social, gender, and political issues of the working class, and the Chicano Movement during the 1970s-1980s. Towards the end of the program, Ramon "Chunky" Sanchez and Ricardo Felix performed. The energy generated by song took us into the night with an impromptu jam session where students and community members played their instruments to create collective sound. Las Chicanas were brought back the following year after they published their book, "Teatro Chicana: A Collective Memoir of Selected Plays". This was a collective memoir of 17 women's stories on why they joined the theatre and how it transformed their lives.
