Elaine JOY de la Cruz, a cherished family member of the Cross-Cultural Center, has gifted us with her soulful art activism and lyrical spoken word. Last Sunday, October 6, marks a decade of her passing and a celebration of her heart, light, and radiance. In the spirit of JOY, we bring you the Common Ground Newsletter, Tribute to Joy. Take a peek, here are excerpts of joy: Joy is a poet, artist, confidant, mentor, student, teacher - goddess. To UCSD, Joy is the Freedom Writer. She is one who never leaves the Cross-Cultural Center intern office. She is the CCC newsletter editor. She is the organizer of the first Woman of Color Conference. She is the free spirit - a Leo. Joy is the soft-spoken voice that deafens and inspires. Joy is our poetry. peace.love.joy. View Fall 2003's Common Ground A Tribute to Joy

Love Your Body Day
Wednesday | October 16 | 11AM-2PM
Women's Center (Above Hi-Thai, Near Main Gym)
Join us for free food, crafts, massages, and more! Every day, in so many ways, the beauty industry (and the media in general) tell women and girls that being admired, envied and desired based on their looks is a primary function of true womanhood. The beauty template women are expected to follow is extremely narrow, unrealistic and frequently hazardous to their health. The Love Your Body campaign challenges the message that a woman's value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards.
