Community Guidelines?: Praxis What You Speech

10th & Final Week

Cross-Cultural Center Hallway

How can we make these "guidelines" hold weight beyond our meeting spaces? Should community guidelines be looked at as ways to structure more than just our meetings but also how we interact in organizations and interpersonally?

Praxis what you speech was thought of when thinking about how often we give soap box speeches whether it is during rallies, meetings with admin, or even in day to day conversations passing by the CCC. I wanted to think about how I can actually put into practice the theories I learn in classroom so that these opportunities to speak aren't just opportunities to say big fancy words but also opportunities to transform even the most seemingly critical spaces. Spaces where we assume our comfort facilitates the comfort of others or spaces where we don't feel like it is the time and/or place to remind your ethnic studies or CGS professor that your PGP is not guy.

So on a first step basis I wanted to facilitate a space where we can critically look at these community guidelines and how they often times do not guide the ways in which we deal with each other but allow us all to become complicit and complacent in our inconsistencies.

Come to the CCC Hallway, take a post-it note, and REFLECT.
