A vibrant community for Asian-Americans to share and discuss our unhealthy quest, past and present, for the "perfect" body. Our struggles with food & body image are not merely about will power - they're social, cultural, and familial.

S.I.P Blog: "Privileged UCSD Students Say the Darndest Things"

James Small, one of the Diversity Peer Educators at the Cross-Cultural Center is starting a blog for his self-initiated project, called "Privileged UCSD Students Say the Darndest Things." It's meant to call out unacknowledged privileges, especially those that James himself has and thus struggles to check (white, upper class, male, cisgendered, able-bodied, etc.) but nothing is off-limits. Please follow it, re-post entries, make comments (including calling James out in whatever he ends up perpetuating), and discuss! It can be found at:

AB540 Narratives/Testimonialsab540

Thursday | April 14 | 4-6pm

Cross-Cultural Center Art Gallery

Hello! My name is Veronica Gonzalez and I am currently a programming intern at the Cross-Cultural Center. For my student initiated project (SIP) I am planning an event titled Invisible Students at UCSD and an art exhibition titled Unsilencing AB540 Students.

This event is an opportunity to unsilence those that live marginalized due to our broken immigration laws. Art will be up by Friday, April 1, 2011 and the event will take place Thursday, April 14th 4 to 6pm Cross-Cultural Center Gallery. This is a call to AB 540 students and alumni to share their stories. If you are an AB 540 student I encourage you to take part in this event by sharing your testimony. I'm Looking forward to a great event!

Questions? Contact [email protected]. If you'll be submitting a narrative but need time to prepare it or help with ideas please let me know so we can either meet on a one to one basis or chat over the phone. Thank you!
