Kiamsha Community Conferencejustice

Saturday | January 22 | 9-4pm
Cross-Cultural Center

The Kiamsha Community Conference will be an event focused on educating, uplifting, and connecting the people of color community on campus. Kiamsha in Swahili means "that which awakens me". Through this conference, student orgs will foster a greater sense of allyship through the opportunity to host and engage in different workshops focusing on issues affecting community groups. This will enhance and broaden an awareness of issues outside our particular groups and develop strategies in order to support other groups fighting for change in the name of social justice.

The community conference also follows this year's Affiliates program theme: Stronger Self, Stronger Community. We will be focusing on creating sustainable methods of activism in order to decrease student burn-out. Our goal is to aim for effectiveness and efficiency in our social justice work without sacrificing academic, personal, and professional responsibilities and growth. This conference will serve as a space to be in community, understand one another, and build sustainable models of growth and reach. This conference will challenge those very familiar with the work to step back while facilitating the ability for others to step-up.

Contact jmphilli@ucsd.edu to for a workshop proposal so that you can present at the conference.
