Tom Hayden: Students & Social Action in the Age of Obama

Dolores Huerta/Philip Vera Cruz Room Tom Hayden was one of the best-known student activists of the 1960s, a founding member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), one of the Chicago 7, and both a CA state assemblyman and a CA state senator (1982-2000). He has taught courses at Pitzer College and Occidental College. He will deliver a talk entitled "Students and Social Action in the Age of Obama". Click here for event info!

"Caramel" Film Screening
Friday | October 29 | 12-2pm Cross-Cultural Center Comunidad Caramel is the first feature film by Lebanese director/actress Nadine Labaki and was distributed in over 40 countries, easily becoming the most internationally acclaimed and exposed Lebanese film to date. The film made its debut in May of 2007 at the Cannes Film Festival.
Set in a hair salon in Beirut, Caramel narrates the intersecting lives of five different women, beautifully showcasing the themes of aging, family, duty, feminism, queer identity, virginity, sisterhoods, traditions, desires, and love (in all its forms). Throughout the journey, Caramel keeps an honest, yet joyful and tender tone. Come watch this internationally acclaimed and award-winning film!

CCC Day of the Dead Celebration

Come celebrate Dia de los Muertos with us at the CCC and help us build an amazing altar right outside the Art Gallery space! We encourage you to bring pictures of your loved ones or other important people you would like to commemorate on this special day. We will also be enjoying some pan de muerto (sweet bread) and hot chocolate while jamming out to Son Jarocho. There will be extra Jarana instruments for people to have the opportunity to learn how to play this beautiful music that originated from Mexico. So don't miss out on this artsy opportunity! Breather Series: Introduction to Swing Dance Workshop
Thursday | November 4| 12-1pm Price Center Dance Room (west of the CCC Comunidad on the outside balcony, top of stairs on 2nd floor)
Brandon Detty of Pattie Wells' Dancetime Center (www.dancetime.com) will be teaching an intro to east coast swing class, also known as jitterbug. Jitterbug swing originated in the late 20's and became very popular in the 40's and 50s. No previous dancing experience required. No partner needed, but if you know some people, bring them along. We will be on a dance floor so wear shoes that you can easily move in. Please be on-time.
