Why is Mortgage Debt Cancellation Important to New Yorkers?
According to the New York State Comptroller, New York has the fourth-slowest foreclosure process in the nation, averaging 2.5 years per property. Mortgage debt forgiveness helps financially-stressed homeowners avoid bankruptcy and gives individuals options rather than entering the lengthy New York foreclosure process.
