FTC Warns of Closing Costs Phishing Scam
Scammers are hacking into the e-mail accounts of consumers and real estate professionals in order to access information about closing dates. The hackers, posing as the real estate professional or title company, will then send an e-mail about a "last minute change" to the wiring instructions for the funds for closing. They will then instruct the buyers to send the funds to a different account, which really belongs to them. Read More Here

NYSAR Lobby Day is May 24:
This year, we will be advocating for a statewide first-time homebuyer savings account program, among other NYSAR
legislative priorities. For those traveling to Albany the day prior, a block of rooms at the new Renaissance Albany Hotel, located across the street from the NYS Capitol Building, has been set aside until April 23. The rate is $179. To reserve a room, call 518-992-2500 and use our room block code SAR, or enter the online group code: SARSARA.
NYSAR will reimburse up to $75 per person for travel expenses to Albany for Lobby Day. NYSAR will provide breakfast, lunch, lobbying orientation and lobbying materials.

NYSAR-supported bills pick up legislative sponsors and support
NYSAR's first-time homebuyer savings program proposal (A.4427-A/S.6548) gained sponsors in both the Assembly and Senate from Assemblyman Phil Ramos (Long Island) and Senator Marc Panepinto (Buffalo). NYSAR's agency education bill (A.9474), which would require two hours of agency-related coursework in a licensee's initial two-year licensing term, has been introduced by Assemblymember Helene Weinstein, Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee. NYSAR will continue to support these bills and encourage state lawmakers to pass these measures into law.
DISCLOSURE:
RATES OF COMMISSIONS AND OTHER FEES FOR THE SALE, EXCHANGE, RENTAL, LEASE, MANAGEMENT, OR MORTGAGE OF REAL ESTATE SHALL BE NEGOTIABLE BETWEEN A BROKER AND HIS/HER CLIENT.
