APRIL IS FAIR HOUSING MONTH

April 2015 marks the 47th anniversary of the 1968 landmark Fair Housing Act, which established a national policy of Fair Housing without regard the race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin or sexual orientation of any prospective client, customer, or of the residents of any community.  Each year REALTORS recognize the significance of this event and reconfirm our commitment to upholding fair housing law as well as our commitment to offering equal professional service to all in their search for real property. NAR provides a number of resources to keep associations up to date on the latest fair housing information for REALTORS.

ARE THE SCHOOLS RIGHT ON YOUR LISTING?

We have been contacted by Penfield Schools with some suggestions for Listing Agents when taking a new listing (in any district). When adding a new listing, please call the district to see which (elementary/middle/high) school serves is assigned to that address. When adding a listing, it is a good idea to auto-populate the data from public records to avoid incorrect data. Not only will you have the correct Area (must be where taxes are paid, not by mailing address or school district) but also the correct School District. According to the Penfield district, "Our registrars occasionally have the unpleasant task of informing people that the new home they bought is actually NOT in the Penfield School District. Or that the apartment they just rented is not in the district." It is so easy to assume you are in a district because of mailing address or how close a school is to a property. As we all know, school district lines, mailing address lines and zip code lines are not one and the same. Make the call and save some stress later on for you, the buyer and the school district.
