"We are feeding lots of kids this summer, probably more than last year," shares Terri Turner, MSC Food Bank Director. "It's hard for many families to provide healthy meals when school is out of session because it can be so expensive. One family that has five children ranging in age from around 2 years to 13 years old comes almost every day. One day, the youngest was having a hard time eating his sandwich, so I went over to help him by cutting it in quarters. He quickly gobbled up three quarters of the sandwich. A hungry little boy he was!"
MSC is proud to be a part of the Summer Meals program providing breakfast, lunch, and snacks at several meal sites this year. Summer Meals not only provides meals, but also activities such as arts and crafts and story time. Terri says, "The kids really enjoy the food and the activities, it's amazing to see how many kids will sit still for a good story, no matter their age!"
Next week will be "Sports Week" with a special treat at the Steel Lake Park location on July 30. Seattle Sounder Lamar Neagle will be on-site from 2-3:15pm (2410 S. 312th, Federal Way, 98003) to sign autographs, take photos, and answer questions! The general public is welcome to attend.
Free meals and snacks are available to all children and teens up to age 18. Proof of income, address, or citizenship is not required. To find a meal site call 1.888.436.6392, go to
