MSC Launches New Youth Empowerment Program

young-cellphone-man.jpg MSC is excited to launch a new program to help vulnerable teens develop a voice in their community. With the sponsorship of Franciscan Health System's Violence Prevention Program, MSC was able to join World Vision's Youth Empowerment Program Network (YEP) and purchase its curriculum called "Empowered for Change: Youth Advocacy Training." MSC will launch this nine-month program this month with a small group of 16- to 24-year-olds that are currently receiving services through MSC's education programs.

During the program, the youth will be empowered to become leaders through:

  • Learning about themselves, their team, and their community.
  • Understanding power, oppression and advocacy.
  • Identifying challenges their community is facing as well as sustainable solutions.
  • Understanding how government works.
  • Learning how to prepare and delivery a policy recommendation to public officials.

"We are thrilled to have joined the YEP Network and to be able to offer this opportunity to the youth we work with," said MSC Education Director Amanda Santo. "We are looking forward to helping these youth find their voice as young people, and to help them have a say in their community."
