This all-day, multi-track conference will feature speakers Marsha Mazz and Bill Botten from the U.S. Access Board, and local speakers Curtis Motoyama from the Hawaii State Department of Transportation, Dean Aoki from the Department of Land and Natural Resources and DCAB staff. Also, luncheon keynote speaker Brent Hanson of GUND Partnership will present their award winning " Grousbeck Center for Students and Technology at Perkins" project. ~ Offering Online Registration ~

Proposed Hawaii Outdoor Developed Areas Accessibility Guidelines Public Hearing Notice
The Disability and Communication Access Board (DCAB) will be holding public hearings in each county to receive comments on their proposal to adopt accessibility guidelines for outdoor developed areas subject to Hawaii Revised Statutes §103-50. The proposed guidelines provide scoping and technical provisions for picnic areas, camping areas, viewing areas, trails and beach access routes to make them more accessible and usable by persons with disabilities.

DCAB welcomes Office Assistant, Danielle Kealoha to the Facility Access Unit (FAU). Danielle will assist FAU with various administrative and clerical responsibilities, and will be happy to answer your project submittal questions, see "What's New at FAU." New DCAB Staff James Tomi
DCAB also welcomes James Tomi as our new Program Specialist in the Program and Policy Development Unit. This Unit administers the accessible parking program for the State of Hawaii in conjunction with the four (4) counties. If you have questions regarding Hawaii Administrative Rules, Title 11, Chapter 219 related to accessible parking and/or parking enforcement questions, please direct your questions to James at (808) 586-8121 or via e-mail at james.tomi@doh.hawaii.gov.

What is a Site Specific Alternate Design?
A site specific alternate design is an alternate design that departs from the technical and/or scoping requirements of Hawaii Revised Statutes §103-50, but provides substantially equivalent or greater access to and usability of the facility for persons with disabilities. Site Specific Alternate Design rulings by DCAB only apply to the project it was submitted for and the specific design that was proposed. Any deviations to that design must be submitted for another ruling and will require a public hearing. For more information, go to DCAB's web site:
