ABA: Final Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas
On September 26, 2013 the U.S. Access Board issued the Final Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas. The rules amend the Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Guidelines by adding scoping and technical provisions for camping facilities, picnic facilities, viewing areas, trails, and beach access routes. These guidelines become mandatory standards on November 25, 2013 and will apply to facilities that are built, altered or leased, with federal funds. The final rule applies to the following federal agencies: Department of Agriculture (Forest Service); Department of Defense (Army Corps of Engineers); and Department of the Interior (Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service). More information can be found on the U.S. Access Board's web site at: http://www.access-board.gov/guidelines-and-standards/recreation-facilities/outdoor-developed-areas.

Proposed Passenger Vessel Accessibility Guidelines
The U.S. Access Board has extended the deadline for public comments on their Proposed Passenger Vessel Accessibility Guidelines. Comments on the guidelines that were released on June 25, 2013 are now due on January 24, 2014. This extension is in response to concerns they received from interested parties on the need for additional time to review the rule and prepare feedback.
For further information, visit the Passenger Vessels homepage at http://www.access-board.gov/guidelines-and-standards/transportation/passenger-vessels/about or contact Paul Beatty at pvag@access-board.gov, (202) 272-0012 (v), or (202) 272-0072 (TTY).
