Antique Gambling Counters

used in this beautiful jewelry were made from Mother-of-pearl. Dating back more than 250 years to the Ching Dynasty, these exquisitely crafted counters were made for the East India Trading Company and other European merchants who had settled in China.

They were mainly used by British royalty and nobility and often were engraved with their family crests or initials. Other pieces showed symbolic themes like people, fish, flowers, animals and insects that held great meaning to the artists.

Approximately 100 years ago these Chinese works of art were transported to England when the British were ousted from China. Quadrille, Ombre and Loo were some of the games played with these chips. Around 1840, games like Whist and Bridge came along with which gambling counters were not used.

The counters began to fade into the shadows of their owner's castles, palaces and stately homes in England. That is where our artist finds them now and transforms them in 14k gold to become flattering pieces of conversation jewelry. They are being rediscovered and appreciated once again for their exquisite beauty.

Hanson Galleries 6-box Rewards Card Guidelines

How it works:

a) After 6 visits, we add up your total purchases and give you 10% of

that number as credit on your next purchase

b) Each box entry refers to total purchases of one day

c) Card must remain in store

d) You may have a rewards card active at both locations

e) Applies to all sales at regular price

f) Retroactive credit for previous purchases cannot be given

g) Lay-a-way sales will be credited when paid in full

h) Excludes pieces from special artist shows

i) Rewards card has no cash value

Jewelry Club Card:

You will not lose your current credit. Bring in any and all valid jewelry club cards

to be converted by us to the new Rewards Card. The Jewelry Club card will be

phased out. The benefit to our Jewelry Club card customers will be that you will

now have the ability to use the new Rewards Card on all types of merchandise in

the store.
