Have You Heard About The "Ice Bucket Challenge?"
It may be warm in parts of the country, but some people aren't drenching themselves in ice or cold water to cool down from elevated temperatures. A new phenomenon has hit the social media circuit - the "Ice Bucket Challenge."
The challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. Those who refuse to take the challenge are asked to make a donation to the ALS charity of their choice.

How Forensic Nurses Help Assault Survivors
When forensic nurse examiners work with survivors of violence - sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse or domestic assault - they're painstakingly collecting and documenting evidence that can hold up in a potential court case.
And they're taking care of a person who's just been traumatized, often by someone they know well. Forensic nursing takes a balance of objectivity, skill and compassion, and it's more than just a job for the professionals who do it.

The 2014 National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) Conference
The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) 42nd Annual Institute and Conference was held in Philadelphia, PA on August 6-10, 2014. There were over 800 attendees and for 6 consecutive years, DiversityNursing.com was an exhibitor. This year's theme was "Influencing Diversity through Nursing Education, Policy, Practice, Research and Leadership".
The NBNA's mission is to provide a forum for collective action by African American Nurses to "investigate, define and determine what the health care needs of African Americans are and to implement change to make available to African Americans and other minorities health care commensurate with that of the larger society." Next year's Annual Conference will be in Atlanta.
