Implementation of the Award for Jurisdiction K Part A/Part B Medicare Administrative Contractor (JK A/B MAC)

In 2006, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a consolidation in the number of Medicare contractors used to administer the Medicare Program throughout the country. CMS is further consolidating the current Jurisdiction 13 (Connecticut and New York) and Jurisdiction 14 (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) in one consolidated Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) known as Jurisdiction K (JK).

CMS has awarded the JK A/B MAC contract to National Government Services. National Government Services will administer the Part A and Part B Medicare fee-for-service claims in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The contractor will also be responsible for processing Medicare Home Health and Hospice (HH+H) billings in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

National Government Services is the incumbent contractor for the Jurisdiction 13 Connecticut and New York workloads. The address for National Government Services is 8115 Knue Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250.

NHIC, Corp. is the outgoing MAC for the Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont workloads. It also is the outgoing MAC for the HH+H workload in those states and the state of Connecticut. The address for NHIC, Corp. is 75 Sgt. William B. Terry Drive, Hingham, MA 02043.

NHIC, Corp. will be partnering with National Government Services to administer the Medicare Program in JK.

CMS has determined that the J13 workloads currently processed by National Government Services (Connecticut and New York) will not require new workload numbers for the JK transition. New workload numbers will be required for only the current J14 workloads. This change is being made because CMS needs to differentiate between the workload processed by the outgoing J14 MAC and the incoming JK A/B MAC. The workload numbers shall be changed and the workloads shall be transitioned to the JK A/B MAC as follows:

Part A Workload Numbers

Part B Workload Numbers

Maine: 14111

Maine: 14112

Massachusetts: 14211
