Sacred History
sacred history

Fridays, February 4 & 18
7:30 to 9:00 pm

Twice each month, Common Ground is pleased to host provocative lectures by Dr. James Rietveld, professor of Religion, Archaeology, and Antiquities from Claremont Graduate University's School of Religion (PhD 2006)

Dr. Rietveld's lectures are geared toward developing an understanding of the historical foundation of contemporary spiritual and religious thought.

Some of the most significant and fascinating topics in the study of sacred history are presented.

While James regularly teaches at an upper academic level, his presentations at Common Ground are geared toward curious students who do not necessarily have a background in the topics he presents.  The information is taught in a clear and easy to grasp manner.

Everyone is welcome. Please join us.
Outreach 2017

Common Ground is please to support the efforts of Mercy House providing shelter and services for the homeless at the National Guard Armory in Santa Ana.

Each month a team of dedicated people from Common Ground assist in providing a nutritious meal, a warm shower, and a safe place to sleep for Orange County clients who are otherwise unable to get out of the cold at night.

This year marks Common Ground's 10th year of service to the cold weather shelter program.

More information for those wishing to donate items to the individuals and families who come to the armories are invite to click here for the Armory Wish List.

Sustainable Planet

Common Ground is committed to the idea of conscious environmental responsibility as a way to support a sustainable planet for future generations

Every third Sunday of the month recyclable plastic and aluminum cans are collected and taken for recycling. Not only does the recycling effort benefit the planet, but, the money gained from the recycling process itself is used to support the work of Common Ground.

Everyone is encouraged to support this worthwhile and important project.

Sunday Service at The Chapel
Weekly 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

The Nature of Things

Every Sunday during February at The Chapel on Common Ground, Reverend Glenda and Reverend Judy invite us to join them as they explore the essential spiritual teachings of the Christian tradition, variations of which happen to be found within the teachings of many major religious traditions.

The sacred texts and 'good books' of all religions contain wisdom, lessons and instructions for navigating the human condition; our relationships with one another, care of the planet, soul growth.

The Christian tradition is no exception.

The Revs will help us dig deeper into some of the core Christian ideas presented through parables, stories and lessons.

Together we will ask: "What is the deeper meaning of the stories; the Good Samaritan; the lilies of the field, casting pearls before swine, loving thy neighbor, having faith like a mustard seed, throwing the first stone, and others?"

This is a perfect opportunity to re frame and revisit ideas that have great value in spiritual terms when taken at a deep personal level beyond a dogmatic interpretation.

Those who are ready to expand the boundaries of understanding to embrace the personal and spiritually relevant meanings behind these useful stories will want to join us each Sunday.

Everyone is welcome, invited and included.

Come as you are.  As you are is perfect.

In addition to Sundays at The Chapel there are many opportunities each week to grow in awareness at Common Ground.  Be sure to check out our busy calendar for the most up-to-date listing.
Common Ground is founded on the idea of embracing humanity ~ our own and that of others.  We endeavor to serve and empower the local and global community,  to actively support efforts toward creating a sustainable planet, and to grow as individuals toward a healthy lifestyle ~ body, mind and spirit.

We are creative, innovative, and contemporary in our approach to learning and demonstrating practices to support us in navigating through the complexities of day-to-day life; including meditation, personal growth, and exploration of wisdom traditions
