A Killer Time at Attack of the Killer Tomato Fest

The rain didn't stop this year's Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival from being a smash hit! On Sunday, July 20, chefs and mixologists brought their best dishes and drinks and stole the hearts (and votes) of judges and fans. Judges Choice went to Ted Lahey of Osteria Mattone for Best Dish while Joey Ward of Gunshow took home the Fan Favorite award. Eduardo Guzman of JCT. Kitchen & Bar and The Optimist swept the Judges Choice for Best Cocktail while Stuart White, Vince Lendi and Zach Capito of Miller Union won Fan Favorite for Best Cocktail. See you all next year!

Rare Orphan Barrel Whiskeys Call Ink & Elm Home for July 23 Dinner

Lost, then amazingly, found. Whiskey aficionados are singing praises about small-batch whiskeys coming out of Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co. The Tullahoma, Tenn. distillery has an uncanny ability to seek out and find barrels of whiskey aging peacefully in old distilleries and rickhouses. Hand bottling pays due respect to these legendary spirits, because the last drop is truly the last drop. Join master of whisky Kevin Mulcahy at Ink & Elm in Emory Village as he leads guests through a trio of these rarities paired with a four-course dinner prepared by executive chef Stephen Sharp on Wednesday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. The evening begins with a specialty cocktail, then ventures through a well-aged flight of Orphan Barrel treasures: Barterhouse, 20 years; Old Blowhard, 26 years; and Rhetoric, 20 years. Buy tickets online, $120 per person (excluding service fee, tax and gratuity).

Pour it on for National Tequila Day at

Tin Lizzy's Cantina July 24

National Tequila Day is Thursday, July 24, and Tin Lizzy's Cantina is celebrating with specials. All Tin Lizzy's locations are commemorating the day by offering one-ounce pours of 1800 Tequila for $2 -- take it as a shot with salt and lime or as a margarita floater. House margaritas cool things off for just $4, or choose from other clever offerings such as the Beach House -- a mental paradise in a glass -- made with 1800's new coconut-infused tequila, orange liqueur and sour mix or the Mexi-Mule, a romance of Jose Cuervo tequila, orange liqueur, ginger beer and lime juice. Pour it on!

Paint the Town at Old Vinings Inn Art Show Featuring Victoria Disalvo

Creativity flows at Old Vinings Inn on Saturday, July 26 when the restaurant features the works of artist Victoria Disalvo. From 6-8 p.m., guests can enjoy light appetizers and a specialty cocktail feature while viewing Disalvo's paintings. Disalvo won her first blue ribbon in an art show when she was just five years old and went on to show and sell her work in Atlanta, Memphis (where she currently resides) and other destinations in the mid-South.

Party 'til After the Fireflies Come Home at Milton's BBQ & Blues on July 27

Come 5 p.m. on July 27, the band starts strumming at Milton's Cuisine & Cocktails, marking the transition from a lazy summer afternoon to a rockin'BBQ & Blues Sundays evening in historic Crabapple. Pile in the car and cruise over for a night of cornhole, craft brews and cocktails, chicken, ribs and oh-so-Southern sides by chef Derek Dollar. There'll be no highfalutin airs here as you say howdy to new friends who also are wearing 'cue sauce on their chins. Milton's plans one of these big gatherings each month during the warm weather season -- two more follow on August 24 and September 28. Please let them know you're coming: 770-817-0161.

Will travel for food. Singapore is Melissa's home base, yet the world's her oyster. Belgian waffles in Brussels, coconut ice cream in Thailand, a Scotch egg in London or, well, you get the picture. @girleatworld dabbles in a little tongue in cheek that will leave you wishing you were there to eat along. If your sombrero's not providing enough shade, lower the temp with a Southwest chicken salad at Willy's Mexicana Grill. Romaine and iceberg lettuces co-mingle under the weight of grilled chicken, black beans, pico de gallo, corn salsa, jack cheese, homemade guacamole and tortilla strips ($7.75). Find your closest Willy's online; their newest location just opened in The Village on North Druid Hills.

We're chipping in with a board Jimmy Buffett would love -- Tacos & Tequila!  Be it for beach or backyard, your spread starts here with tequila lime fish tacos and creamy margarita popsicles. Only two questions remain: salt or no salt and soft or crunchy?
