The Brews of Summer are in Cocktails at Atkins Park Virginia-Highland New Holland Brewing Company Cocktail Tasting

Craft beers, ales and stouts add their distinct natural effervescence and a refreshing punch to summer cocktails. Which beers and distilled spirits go into the mix makes the difference. New Holland Brewing Company has perfected beer cocktails and is eager to see what you think at a beer cocktail tasting on the patio of Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar in Virginia-Highland on Wednesday, May 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Atkins Park Chef Andrew Smith creates a menu of small bites to accompany the brew-dazzling cocktail tastings. Here's what guests can expect: Mad Hatter IPA paired with Gruyère cheese puffs; Aviation with Knickerbocker Gin and shaved prosciutto deviled eggs; The White Dutchess with Dutchess Citrus Vodka and crispy flat bread with ricotta, spring onion marmalade and grilled asparagus; and a Horses Neck made with Beer Barrel Bourbon and served with smoke-roasted beef short ribs and roasted corn slaw. $25 per person, excluding tax or gratuity. Reservations recommended, call 404-876-7249.

SkyLounge Patio Launch Party Tops an "Ultimat" Evening at The Glenn on May 31

The sun sets about 8:45 p.m. this Friday, May 31, and the view from the patio launch party at SkyLounge, atop the Glenn Hotel, will be stunning. ABC.com lists SkyLounge as one of the "Top 23 Rooftop Bars in the World." The sleek patio holds a coveted spot on the 11th floor of this historic building. Sink into one of the low, cushioned couches and gaze over the city's shimmering skyline and the lush greens of Centennial Olympic Park. Backing up the view are party-exclusive cocktails crafted with Patron Tequila or Ultimat Vodka, DJ tunes and giveaways from 7-9 p.m. You may not want to come down off the roof.

Nearly Neighbors: Bantam + Biddy Hosts Wild Heaven Craft Beer Dinner on June 5

It's less than 10 miles from the Wild Heaven Craft Beer brewery in Decatur to Bantam + Biddy in Midtown's Ansley Mall. According to Urban Dictionary, that qualifies as a country mile, so understandably these two neighbors want to get together for dinner. They're welcoming the rest of us to join them for a four-course beer dinner on Wednesday, June 5. Bantam + Biddy Co-owner/Chef Lance Gummere does the menu planning and Wild Heaven's brewmaster, Eric Johnson, will be there to talk about their European-style beers and plans for the brewery. Hors d'oeuvre come out at 6:30 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. dinner featuring wild salmon carpaccio with IPA mustard, dill and rye paired with Let There Be Light (American ale with a citrus note); spiced duck salad with candied pecans and strawberry and peppercorn vinaigrette paired with Eschaton (Belgian strong dark ale with dark fruit and pit fruit flavors as well as earthy spiciness); rotisserie rib-eye with horseradish, watercress and brioche paired with Invocation (Belgian-style golden ale with a semi-dry finish and lingering tropical fruit and spicy notes); and bread pudding with chocolate, pralines and cherry compote paired with Ode to Mercy (Imperial brown ale with a combination of deep-roasted malts, coffee, oak and a smooth, creamy finish). $45 per person. Reservations required; call 404-907-3469.

Fess Up to Putting Peanuts in Your Coke as You Have Another Slice of Taria Camerino's

Peanut Pie with Coke Reduction

One by one, salted peanuts trickled down into the neck of both kids' and grandpas' Coke bottles. This fond childhood memory set JCT. Kitchen & Bar Pastry Chef Taria Camerino on an insatiable quest to capture the sweet and salty contrast of this summery treat, and she's done it. Her recipe for Virginia peanut pie with Coke reduction is captured in a video on the Coca-Cola Journey-Stories web page. Just watching it will set your mouth hankering. FYI, if you're afraid you'll eat the whole pie, you can order a slice off the JCT. Kitchen menu.

Appetizing Aperture

Little Cake Bakery refuses to limit Nutella to lunch box sandwiches or lemon meringue to ice box pies. These flavors lend themselves quite nicely to their summer cupcake menu. Thinking inside the cupcake box, we'll take a dozen of the Nutella mocha and another of lemon meringue.
