'Tis the Night Before Thanksgiving - Thank These Restaurants for Pre-Turkey Specials on November 21
Fill up on what's going on BEFORE the big eat day. Thanksgiving Eve parties will be in full swing (or wing) around town. Atkins Park Smyrna rocks more than Plymouth with The Joe Garner Band going on at 10:30 p.m. and playing on - with drink specials - until 4 a.m. Atkins Park Virginia Highland is partying pre-feast as well, starting at 9 p.m. DJ Lion spins the tunes as SweetWater beers are featured. On Atlanta's Westside, Ormsby's will be open until 3 a.m. the night before Thanksgiving. Hmm, maybe a dash to the all-night grocery then a stopover at Ormsby's for a high five on knocking out the dinner ingredient list and a toast to blessings big and small with one of their many craft brews or signature cocktails.

Meet Some of the New Cultures of Southern Foodways and Agriculture at Global Growers Network Tasting on November 20
They've come from places such as Burundi and Bhutan, usually with only their hands, feet and big hearts to start a new life in their new home, "The South." And, their farms and native flavors are spicing up our Southern foodways. Learn more about their contributions from Southern Foodways Alliance Director John T. Edge as the Global Growers Network toasts "The Culture in Agriculture" with a night of cocktails and tastings on Tuesday, November 20 from 5:30-8 p.m.in the Avondale Estates home of Susan Pavlin. The Women of Umurima, the sustainable Burundi Women's Farm in Decatur, will offer tastings of their traditional Burundi dishes and share farm tales. Seven Lamps Bartender Bridget Perison will stir up signature cocktails. Hosts include "Mindful Eating"co-founder Tamie Cook, Walter Reeves - "The Georgia Gardener" and more. The evening's proceeds will purchase MARTA passes for women and elderly farmers of the Burundi and Bhutanese communities. Each $40 donation, the minimum requested of guests, will purchase housing-to-farm transportation for one farmer for one month. Visit www.globalgrowers.net for tickets. |
