Greetings!
Crowdfunding has nothing on cause marketing. Donations can add up quickly in consumer donation campaigns, where consumers are asked to dip into their own wallets to chip in for a good cause. Examining only the largest of these campaigns for a new report called America's Charity Checkout Champions, we found that more than $358 million was raised in 2012.
A few data points of interest:
- The vast majority of these top producing campaigns involved a register ask - an employee directly asking a customer if they'd like to donate.
- Asking consumers to contribute even small amounts (e.g. Ronald McDonald House Charities' coin collection program) can add up to significant numbers.
- Patience is a virtue. Many of these campaigns are long-standing partnerships (the longest? March of Dimes/Kmart started in 1983).
