Greetings!
Cause marketing is a win-win partnership between a company and a cause. Yet all too often companies, in an attempt to appear altruistic, use the "C" word when describing these efforts. The word that evokes generosity but also pity. A word that signifies a one-sided relationship, often one of dependence: Charity.
Don't fall prey to this mistake. Several of our Corporate Advisory Members, those who are experienced in the field of doing well by doing good, list this as a personal pet peeve and fatal flaw of cause marketers.
Don't Sell Your Nonprofit Partner Short
Clif Bar's Brooke Golden had this to say, "The idea that the charitable partner is only charity sells the nonprofit short. Nonprofits have passionate followers and key relationships and networks that may not otherwise be accessible to brands or companies. They have strengths in the numbers and passion of their followers and relationships that can work hard for brands and brand partnerships."
