What is the Rapid Bridge Replacement Program?

This Public Private Partnership (P3) project was recently awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to the PWKP consortium. The Commonwealth is taking advantage of the new P3 tool signed into law in 2012 to begin a new initiative to address the State's nearly 4,500 structurally deficient (SD) bridges. With the P3 approach, we can replace hundreds of these bridges more quickly, save money, and minimize the impact on the traveling public. York County has 15 bridges selected for this program. Follow this link http://parapidbridges.com/ to see the locations of these bridges and the timeframe for each bridge project.

Hazard Mitigation Planning: Practices for Land Use Planning and Development near Pipelines
Pipelines and Informed Planning Alliance (PIPA) Releases Publication

The Pipelines and Informed Planning Alliance (PIPA) recently published "Hazard Mitigation Planning: Practices for Land Use Planning and Development near Pipelines."  This document provides information to assist those involved in State, local, and tribal planning to identify practices and actions that can be taken to reduce risks associated with transmission line failures.  Informational topics covered include how pipelines operate, what hazardous materials are transported through pipelines, what are the causes and potential impacts of pipeline incidents, what is the pipeline safety regulatory structure, and how to find contact information for subject matter experts. Given the past and current interest in pipeline development in York County, this information should be of interest to municipalities, residents, and those in the emergency management field. The document is available to view for free on-line.
