Dear Tahoma Families,

We hope that you are relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather. The school leaders have been very busy working on the upcoming year, and are excited to share with you a few announcements and upcoming events for our community!

Our first announcement is regarding WASC, or the Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges. This organization is in charge of accrediting all public schools in California, making sure that the educational institutions are serving the students well. Last May, WASC visited our campus to observe classes, talk to students and parents, and learn about all the amazing things that were happening at our schools. A HUGE thank you to all of the parents and students who participated in these small group conversations. We are extremely pleased to announce that WASC has just submitted their reports from their visit, and we received the longest accreditation possible - until the end of the 2016 school year! This is a huge blessing because it communicates the faith and trust that WASC has in Summit Public Schools. Now that we have our initial accreditation, we will be moving forward with other important processes that we need as a college preparatory school, including applying to the University of California for A-G approval for our courses. We are confident that we will earn this approval and will continue to keep you informed.

Our second announcement is regarding our uniform policy. We have done a lot of thinking, reflecting, and gathering input from students, parents, and teachers, and we have re-clarified our policy. This re-clarified policy is included in the summer mailer and posted on the PIVOT website; the spirit of the policy still remains. We fundamentally believe that to ensure safety, promote equity, and establish professionalism, we must have a system in place that makes students easily identifiable and uniform (pun intended).

The last piece of exciting news is a reminder of all the amazing events to kick off the year! These are:

  • Upcoming facilities work days (THANK YOU to those who came out to the last ones!)
    • Rainier will be having their next work day on August 3rd, from 9am - 12pm.
    • Tahoma will be having their next work day on August 10th, from 9am - 12pm.
  • GSD Day
    • July 31st, from 6 - 7:30pm in Bustos Plaza on the Tahoma campus
    • At GSD Day, you will be able to submit important paperwork, sign up to volunteer, get student school photos taken, learn about our sports program, and meet the teachers!
  • New Student Orientation!
    • August 12 - 14 from 9am - 12pm at the respective Rainier and Tahoma campuses
    • We have many important activities planned for this time, so it is mandatory for all new students to attend!
  • Summer Mixer
    • August 10 from 4 - 6pm at the Tahoma campus
    • Bring the whole family for games, activities, and a raffle to kick off the year!
We hope to see you at these events, and are so excited to start the new year!

Respectfully,
Tahoma Directors
