JOHN BOHMAN has been a member of UUCA since 1989, and he is the current Board chair. This the second time John has served on the Board. He encourages everyone to become more deeply involved in the life of the Church and to commit to our faith as a way of life. UUCA is here to make a difference in the lives of everyone touched by our community of faith.
John served as a vice-chair during the last year of his prior term on the Board during the 1990's. He was also co-chair of the Search Committee that resulted in the calling of Rev. Michael McGee. He had previously served on Rev. Joan Gelbein's Advisory Committee and on the Music Committee. During his years at UUCA, John has been a part of the music and theater arts programs at UUCA. He is a strong backer of small group ministry, policy based and future oriented governance, and interfaith outreach and community empowerment through UUCA's membership in VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement).
John was a co-chair of the committee that developed the team ministry proposal, and he was also a member of the task force that suggested over a decade later that the Church return to a senior minister model. John served on the Committee on Ministry for part of the period that the Church tried out that alternative.
The UUCA faith community was the village that helped John and his wife Louise raise their three children. "UUCA has been where the entire family learned that Church is where we go not to be served, but to serve. And, our faith calls us not only to serve those with whom we share our religious covenant, but also to serve all humanity."
