 Annual Boston Harbor Educators Conference
"The effects of changing oceans on Boston Harbor"

        • Free parking for first 50 registrants
        • Educators, scientists, students are welcome!

Registration is $40/member in advance, inlcuding lunch; rate varies for non-members, students, walk-ins


Keynote speakers include Vivian Lee from the Boston Harbor Association, Dr. Chris Watson from UMass Boston, and Dr. Anamarija Frankic from UMass Boston.

Winners of the 2013 Art Contest
MME's Annual Art contest saw 726 entries from over 60 schools as well as homeschoolers. This year's theme was "Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary".  Winning artwork and several of the honorable mentions have been framed and are now part of a traveling exhibit that will tour public venues starting in September and continuing throughout the 2013-2014 school year.  Congrats to all of the talented young marine artists out there!

The Autumn issue of F&J is online! This edition features the New England Aquarium, an update on the summer NMEA conference, a teacher's week-long voyage on the JOIDES Resolution, winners of the MME Art Contest, the Editor's Note, a flyer for the Boston Harbor Educators Conference, great classroom activities, and more! Contact the F&J Editor with any questions/feedback of if you are interested in contributing to the next edition.
SEA - Boston Open Ships

2014 From the Bow Seat Contest

From the Bow Seat announces its contest for 2014, which invites high school students to compete for cash prizes by tackling the issue of Plastic Pollution in the Ocean, individually or collaboratively, through ART, ADVOCACY or ESSAY options.

NEAq Educator Appreciation Night

Project WET training
Join the Department of Conservation and Recreation for a Project WET training on Saturday, October 26th from 8:30am - 3:00pm. Project WET (Watershed Education for Teachers) is a curriculum for all grade levels and is correlated to state frameworks. This and other teacher PD opportunities can be found on the MAST website.
NU Marine Science Center Open House
The Northeastern University Marine Science Center is holding its annual Open House on Saturday, October 5th from 10am-3pm (rain date Oct 6th). Research, teaching, and outreach will be showcased via hands-on activities, talks, and demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit
