Archer
Elementary Student
Archer began at Giant Steps in March of 2012 after his family relocated to the area from out of state. We quickly came to love his upbeat personality and interest in music and technology. Archer is a comedian with a kind heart. He cares about his classmates and friends when they are sick or sad by trying to make them laugh, and he enjoys getting to know them by asking questions about their lives. Archer enjoys playing games on the iPad and computer during his free time at Giant Steps. Archer has shown great success at Giant Steps achieving many of his goals. He continues to spread smiles and laughter in his class as their very own comedian!

Debra Nauman
Founder/Chair Emeritus
Debra Nauman founded Giant Steps in 1996 when options for her son, Riley, ran out. The public school Riley attended did not provide the services and environment he needed to learn. Debra turned to her local legislators for help, and through the Illinois General Assembly, Debra secured the initial funding to start Giant Steps.
Debra served as President of the Board from 1996 until 2002 and currently serves as Chair Emeritus. Debra has been a supporter of Giant Steps for the past 17 years. She continually donates her time and services to Giant Steps. Debra is the owner ofSimply Elegant Cateringand is always generous during our many events throughout the year. Debra proudly serves on the Giant Steps Board of Directors.

Florence Ann Romano
Junior Board President
Florence Ann Romano, President and Founder of the Junior Board for Young Professionals of Giant Steps, is an actress living and working in the city of Chicago. Her brother, Michael, is a member of Giant Steps adult program, Canopy, so the creation of the Junior Board is truly something close to her heart and representative of her core values.
The Junior Board was established in June 2012, raising over $22,000 for the Canopy program during its first year.
Florence Ann is honored to be a part of the Giant Steps family and is looking forward to bringing more awareness and fundraising opportunities for the Giant Steps community.
