Library Visits

What if at any given moment of any given day, two SUPER HERO LIBRARIANS (maybe their alter egos are named Derek and Lisa) will SWOOP IN unannounced to snap photos or see a program of super-heroic proportions?

These super visitors are excited to see what amazing ideas their libraries have for this year's summer reading theme! They do admit that they most likely will not be wearing the capes and masks during the visit.

YALSA Grant

Margaret Edwards Trust Literacies Programming Grant

"Now through Nov. 1, 2015, apply for this grant, which is funded by the Margaret Edwards Trust and will award up to five grants worth $5,000 each for libraries to use towards launching a new or expanding an existing successful program to help teens master text-based literacies. Successful applicants will address teen needs beyond traditional print reading comprehension and be inclusive of activities that help teens build skills to successfully navigate text-based literacies in both a print and an online world. Appropriate activities include but are not limited to helping teens with navigating nonlinear text, repeatedly evaluating resources, sifting through extraneous materials, inferring meaning, and using a range of features to compose unified messages.

Potential applicants can visit YALSA's wiki to learn more about multiple literacies. Apply via this online form."

Apply for a stipend to attend the Young Adult Services Symposium in Portland!

"YALSA provides up to two stipends for attendance to the  Young Adult Services Symposium. Both stipends offer up to $1,000 in funds for travel and registration. One stipend will be awarded to a library worker who works directly with young adults, with one to ten years' experience and the other will be awarded to a student enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS program at the time of the symposium. Applications for both the student stipend and the worker stipend must be submitted online by June 15th. "
