Health Care Changes
by: Jay Glynn

An election for president just concluded that helps to give us a direction for the changes that are coming in health care over the next years.  With President Obama winning the election the Affordable Health Care Act will most likely stay in place. Many states have already been planning for this change during the last year. The act requires the expansion of heath care through health exchanges that are required and through the expansion of Medicaid that the states can except or reject.

The exchanges will offer a wide range of health options for those that do not qualify for Medicare, Medicaid or have insurance where they work. Individuals and families receiving insurance from the exchanges will be subsidized by the federal government depending on their income.

The decision to expand Medicaid is left up to each state. The federal government will pay the full cost for three years. The states will then gradually assume up to ten percent of the cost. Our state has not made the decision to take the Medicaid expansion yet but seems to be going in that direction. It is estimated that 1.295 million uninsured people in Florida will gain coverage under this act.

The health care changes will change our business as well. If Florida accepts the Medicaid expansion then state mental health and substance abuse funds will be reduced. The state will not be paying us because most of our clients will have insurance. We will be much more like a private business billing Medicaid and private insurances instead of the state. We have been planning in this direction for some time now. Our recent opening of Northside Psychiatric Services is positioning us for the expansion of health care.

We are entering a very interesting time in the health care field. I believe there will be many opportunities in the coming years and we will be moving to take advantage of them. We have the staff, facilities and financial resources to take advantage of the changes. I will keep you informed as the details of the health care act begin to take shape and I hope you all have a Wonderful Holiday Season.

Northside Psychiatric Services Ribbon Cutting

Thank you to everyone that attended the Northside Psychiatric Ribbon Cutting on November 27th. We had a great turn out and appreciate everyone's support and enthusiasm.

Charlotte Behavioral Health Care, serving the behavioral and substance abuse needs of Charlotte County, announced the opening of a new office in Port Charlotte in late November, 2012. The main campus is located at 1700 Education Ave Punta Gorda and the new location will be opening  at 1032 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, FL 33953 in the Murdock Town Center. The new office will be Northside Psychiatric Services a division of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care and will continue to provide Charlotte County and now Sarasota County residents with programs and services in an array of expert care.

Northside Psychiatric Services will focus on Children's Services including; Individual Therapy Children's Groups, Counseling and Psychiatric Services. Individual and Group Therapy and Psychiatric Services for adults will be offered as well.

With opening a new office, CBHC will be able to accommodate the growing need for children's behavioral and mental health services in northern Charlotte County and south Sarasota County areas. The expansion of this new location will better meet the needs of current and future consumers in our community.

"Expanding into a new facility will be a learning experience," said Jay Glynn, CEO of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care. "But once we are up and running, it will allow us endless opportunities to provide the North Port community with services and programs that were not available to them previously."

Reading Company E-mails Keeps Us In the Know

 by: Shelly Terruso

As our agency is split up between campus buildings, other sites and several departments and Managers... E-mail is truly our main source of communication.  As we make changes, it has become even more essential that staff take time out to read their e-mails.  E-mails are designed to keep our staff up to date on company events, policy/procedure changes, news, position changes & so much more.

Effective immediately... we ask that all staff read their agency e-mail once daily during their normal shift, as part of your regular routine.  We've also asked that Managers take a moment to print out & post anything that might be urgent or that staff should know about quickly.

We realize that everyone is busy, which is why it's important that you're kept up to date on any company business that affects you directly or indirectly.

I'm always available, should you have any questions or concerns.  We thank you for your selfless dedication to those we serve.

Congratulations to Mr. Al Clarke for winning the CSU weight loss challenge.  Al started at a weight of 215 and managed to lose a whopping 17 pounds. Kevin B came in at a respectable second place down 11 pounds from original weigh in.  Rico came in third place down 10 pounds.  Last and a predictable least, William J down 7 generous pounds from his original weight.  Congratulations to my co-workers for their participation in this competition.  When you see Al please congratulate him.

Below is one employee suggestion with its response in red Please note... some suggestions are of a confidential nature, so they will not be posted within this format.

October 2012

Suggestion:  Perhaps the CBHC Core Values could now be removed from our desktops.  The font is blurry & difficult on a person's eyes... very annoying.

Response:  The CBHC Core Values is important to us as an agency, so we want to keep it visible.  However, we understand that it may be difficult to read, so this suggestion has been submitted to Will Fraley, requesting that he take a look at how it can be made "easier on the eyes".  We appreciate your patience on this item, as Will has many projects in his roster currently.
