Fall is here!
by: Vickie D'Agostino

Many of us are breathing a sigh of relief to get a break from the heat. I hear so many people talking about our beautiful weather this week! Even more important, we are ALL breathing a sigh of relief to be finished with two major audits in the month of October. As all of you know, we had a tremendous DCF Substance Abuse audit, and also had an outstanding CARF survey outcome.
I wanted to share the specific compliments that the CARF surveyors made:
"You have fantastic staff here...your services are outstanding"
"Your funders feel you are one of the topic in the state."
"You rise to meet the needs of the persons served."
"You are using the restraint plan at the CSU and it is working."
"QM is strong...This is rare, you've got it."
"Case Management is so efficient and your charts are so well maintained."
(the campus) "It's beautiful, it's hard to understand that you're a non-profit....Steve (Facilities) really does a good job maintaining this place."
They reported that while interviewing clients, that they had nothing negative to say about our programs. Even when pressed to identify one area of improvement, our clients did not complain. They said that clearly the clients see us as an extension of their family, and feel safe coming here.
Thanks to all of you. You treat our clients well, work hard, and really build our reputation in the community and around the state. All of you should feel so proud for a job well done. Now go enjoy this beautiful weather!

Above & Beyond
Jessica has shown all of us that she can multi-task. She maintains the brochures, updates the website, writes the Newsletter, handles agency press releases, goes to networking and community events and runs the
Fred Lang Foundation Board, as just some of her normal routine duties. In addition to this we have all been part of the events that she organizes. Some of these are the Fred Lang luncheon, the Healthy Start Diaper Drive, the children's CSU improvements, the Child Abuse Prevention event, the Mental Health Walk, the Drug Court Habitat Rebuild, CIT graduation, Breast Cancer
Campaign, our holiday party and others that I'm sure I've missed.
She is a board member of the Charlotte County Young Professionals and has recently joined Leadership Charlotte. She is also the social media chair of the Florida Public Relations Association and a member of the Charlotte County and the Punta Gorda Chambers, as well as the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In her spare time she has the huge task of organizing and putting together all the details for the Summer Ball. She is also now working on a marketing plan for our
new location in Murdock.
The really nice part is that she does all of this with a great attitude. She always has a smile and always is there to help. Jessica definitely goes Above and Beyond and makes CBHC a better place for all of us.

$aving Money Makes $ense

CBHC is presenting Brian O'Flaherty with the Saving Money Makes Sense award due to his demonstrated ability to significantly reduce the Dietary Food and Labor Cost within the past fiscal year July 2011 to June 2012.
The data reveals that thru clever work schedule rearranging of the dietary staff and switching to the breakfast service provided by the CSU/RC tech staff the Dietary Department was able to reduce the overall food labor cost by 18.3% (or) $29, 101.00.
Additionally, Brian worked his "magic" with food product and was able to bring significant reductions to the overall food costs as well. This was not an easy task as the food costs have been steadily rising. The amazing thing, is the overall food quality has continued to improve and our CBHC employee lunch service is growing, serving approximately 3,500 employee meals this past fiscal year. Brian's expertise and experience was demonstrated by reworking the menu and training staff to reduce food waste. As a result of this the data reveals that the overall food costs were reduced by 30.4% or $40,913.00.
Adding both reductions together this equals an overall combined reduction of Dietary food and labor costs by 23.9% or a GRAND TOTAL of $70,014.00
Brian, CBHC "THANKS YOU" and wants you to know that the agency "APPRECIATES" your dedication and demonstrated commitment to agency goals and mission. CBHC recognizes your VISION to "Saving Money Makes Sense" and is proud to call you Chef Brian, Dietary Manager & friend.

* Congratulations Faye Davis for completing the Chicago Marathon October 7th! What a great accomplishment, way to go!
* "I wanted to let everyone know that we finished another successful DCF review of our Substance Abuse programs. The auditor said everything looked really good. We had a couple of minor issues with our charts, and she said our personnel files were "perfect."
Great job to all of you who worked to make this audit a success!! "
-Vickie D'Agostino
* "Today, we had a wonderful example of our core values demonstrated at their finest among our staff at CBHC! Glenda did an assessment with a new client, an adolescent girl, about whom she was very concerned regarding the level of her depressive symptoms. The FD worked with the family, not only to figure out the details of the payments, but to find an early appointment for the girl to see Ken Denman, ARNP, which turned out to be today, same day. This created some issues with their insurance which the FD worked out efficiently with them. Glenda said that you could just see the relief on the faces of the mother and the girl about getting in quickly for a psychiatric evaluation, but also about dealing with the financial parts of it so that it worked for the family. I don't know the details of what happened when they went to see Ken and the OP med techs, but I am sure that the teamwork continued. From start to finish, what a great demonstration of what our staff do every day....Glenda was so appreciative of the help and determination of the FD staff to assist that she came to tell me the story, but she is part of it as well"
-Molly Grossman
*After a lot of supervision and hard work, Kerry Fickthorn is now a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)! Congratulations!!
