Gerard Doherty, MD, takes helm of Department of Surgery
Gerard Doherty is a soft-spoken man with a sense of humor and a keen sense of purpose. He will tell you as a third-year medical student who thought he was going to be an internist, it was the surgical patients that interested him the most.
"I found that as the patients went to surgery to have their problem fixed, I liked finding out whether the early decisions we made were right or wrong," Doherty recalls. "Whether our diagnoses and plans held up, and that our choices were out there for all to see. That is what attracted me to surgery."
