Call for Silent Auction Items
'Silent Sentry'

One of the newer traditions for the AIS Conventions is the Silent Auction.  Donations of iris and garden related items from members, "Raisin' Region Baskets" from the Regions, and rhizomes from hybridizers all come together for a great auction.  Please consider  your donations for the 2016 Convention in New Jersey.  Complete details including where to send your donations can be found here.

And it is not too soon to be making your plans for the Convention.  See the 2016 AIS Convention website for all the details.  Part of what you will find there is the registration form that you can use now.

Yes, The Iris Encyclopedia Has Videos
'Montevideo'

The Iris Wiki's goal is to cover all of Irisdom, if that's a proper word.  It has sections for all varieties, hybridizers and other irisarians, publications and history.  And now it has videos!

A good place to start is the Iris Video Library.  It was videos featuring Iris Gardens, Hybridizing, Iris Flowers, and Growing Irises.  Or you can use the Video Library Index to find videos.

Some of these we have mentioned before, for example a drone's view of Superstition Iris Gardens and previews of the irises at the 2015 AIS Convention gardens such as Mid-America Garden

Do you have, or know of, other iris videos?  Or ones that should be created?  Please help us!  See the About Adding Videos page on the Iris Encyclopedia.

Reblooming In the World of Irises
'Radiant Bliss' Wilkerson 2004

This time of year is the right time to enjoy reblooming irises.  To increase your enjoyment, see Betty Wilkerson's contributions to the World of Irises blog on this topic.  She has been talking about rebloomers and hybridizing rebloomers there for a number of years.

A good place to start is with her What Is Rebloom?  She recently revisited this in What Is A Rebloomer?  And her most recent posting on her hybridizing program for rebloomers is here.  You can find most of her posts by clicking on the Betty Wilkerson label at the bottom of any of her posts.  Note that you need to go to the bottom of the page and choose Older Posts to see more.

Find other rebloom postings by searching on rebloom in the search box in the upper right-hand corner of World of Irises.  Follow this link to reach the same results.

The Reblooming Iris Society website has other resources for you to check out.  You can learn about membership as well.
Beardless Irises By Kevin Vaughn

Just a quick note because Andi Rivarola has said it much better than I can.  He recently reviewed Kevin Vaughn' new book "Beardless Irises:  A Plant for Every Garden Situation" on the World of Irises.  His take:  "Today I believe that he has not only great advice to give on how to grow irises successfully, but also offers a multitude of information that makes reading his new book a joy. "  See his complete review and some of the great photos from the book here.

Another Reblooming Jigsaw

A remarkable reblooming season in central Iowa this year.  Normally it is a race between the rebloomers and the first frosts.  This year I had two cultivars open in September!  This is the second one, 'Constant Companion', which has been my most reliable rebloomer, just not so early.

Follow these links to the standard difficulty jigsaw and the harder difficulty jigsaw.
Become an Emember

If you are already a member, you might consider adding an American Iris Society Emembership.  This is a way for you to show additional support for AIS.  For just $15 a year, in addition to your regular membership charge, you have online access to Irises, including all the back issues of it and the AIS Bulletin, the Registration & Introductions database, and you help to support our online initiatives!  Find out more here.  And you will qualify for the AIS Voucher Program described in earlier issues.

The Emembers Login link can now be found in the Quick Links in the left column.  You will need your username and password which comes from the AIS Membership Secretary (aismemsec@irises.org).
