'Gypsy Lord' - 2015 Dykes Medal Winner

The Special Edition of News & Notes with links to the winning irises is the most popular issue each year.   And this year continued the tradition.  We pointed you to the list of winners with photos . However, if you were looking for the printable list, we let you down; the link we gave you did not work.  You may have found the correct link in the winners with photos list.  If not, here is the text only list - 2-column PDF which you can print.  Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Two opportunities for you to think about:  Become a judge so you are able to help determine the Medal Winners and remember to participate in the popularity polls.  You can see the results of past popularity polls in the Iris Encyclopedia here.

Board of Director's Meeting Invitation
'Invitation'

The AIS Board of Directors meets at the National Convention in the Spring and a second time in the Fall.  Members are encouraged to attend these meetings.  This Fall the meeting is in Omaha, Nebraska on November 6th and 7th.  Members and directors can find the Registration Form here.

Hope to see many of you there!
Regional Fall Meetings Reminder
'Fall Festival'

While the first of the Regional Fall Meetings have already occurred, there are still many remaining for you to attend.  See all the details we could find in the 2015 Fall Meetings table.  They're a great chance to see old friends, meet new ones, learn more about irises, and hopefully pick up a few more irises.  What a great combination!
Judges Handbook Revision - Your Comments Needed
'Judgement Call'

The AIS Judges Handbook is the reference used by Judges for both garden and show judging.  The Judges Handbook Revision Committee is headed by Betty Roberts and is a committee composed of AIS members from across all AIS sections to capture all possible feedback on the subject. AIS Judges and others should send their comments to the President and VP of the appropriate section - TB comments to TBIS, Siberian comments to the Siberian Iris Society, etc.  General comments, suggestions, issues, and questions should be directed to Betty Robers at florabetty39@aol.comComments to the Sections should be received by October 1st.

You can find the Sections with their Presidents here and the Cooperating Societies listed here.  Contact information for all committees, including the Judges Handbook Revision Committee, can be found here.

And if you would like to order your copy of the Handbook for Judges and Show Officials (the actual name), see the AIS Storefront here.
Updated Quick Links
'Linkage'

One feature of News & Notes is the Quick Links in the left-hand column which hopefully make it easier for you to reach popular topics.  As website addresses change or other changes occur, we try to keep them updated.

One link that we have updated this month is the Novelty Iris Society link.  It now goes to their announcement that AIS approved them as a Section at the Portland Convention.  You can learn more about this and how to become a member by clicking here (PDF) or on their Quick Link.
A Reblooming Jigsaw

Not the normal time of year when I would have a fresh iris photo for the jigsaw.  However, 'Oxmoor Hills' by James Ennenga bloomed September 2nd here in central Iowa.  Just planted last Fall, it is listed as a rebloomer and noted on the hybridizer page that it may bloom 3 or 4 times a year.

Do you note when irises bloom in the Fall?  Or other times they rebloom?  You can share your observations on the Iris Encyclopedia the same way you share the Spring bloom times and locations.  The Bloom Time 2015 page would be an appropriate place to add your reblooming notes (that is where the Spring bloom times are) or they can be added to individual cultivar's entries.  You can also join the Reblooming Iris Society to learn more about rebloomers and recommendations.  Here is their membership page.

And before I forget it, here is the standard difficulty jigsaw and this is the harder difficulty jigsaw.
Become an Emember

If you are already a member, you might consider adding an American Iris Society Emembership.  This is a way for you to show additional support for AIS.  For just $15 a year, in addition to your regular membership charge, you have online access to Irises, including all the back issues of it and the AIS Bulletin, the Registration & Introductions database, and you help to support our online initiatives!  Find out more here.  And you will qualify for the AIS Voucher Program described in earlier issues.

The Emembers Login link can now be found in the Quick Links in the left column.  You will need your username and password which comes from the AIS Membership Secretary (aismemsec@irises.org).
